Frequently asked questions
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes. Training with the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) meant that I could gain an accredited teacher qualification. Their aim is to promote an understanding of yoga and it’s safe practice. My training has lasted over two years and requires real commitment but I knew I was in safe hands and as a result my students would be too.
What style of yoga will I be doing?
Hatha yoga.
Hatha yoga is often translated from Sanskrit as ‘sun and moon.’
‘Ha’ being the sun’s active energy and ‘tha’ being the moon’s calming energy.
Hatha yoga aims to balance these two energies and recognises the link between body and breath when we practice helps to quieten the mind.
What are the benefits of yoga?
People have found Yoga to benefit them in many ways, for example it may:
Improve your flexibility
Help you manage stress better
Improve your sleep
Increase your energy levels
Improve the awareness of your body
Promote calmness
Improve your focus and concentration
Do I need to be flexible?
Being able to touch your toes isn’t necessary and doesn’t make you a better person! We start yoga from where we are each time we come to the mat. Gradually your flexibility (stretch tolerance) and confidence will improve with practice. Try to avoid comparing yourself to others remember, it is your practice not a competition.
Who is it for?
Everyone can do Yoga and everyone is welcome, whether you’re a complete beginner and have never tried yoga before or you have had some experience.
What do I wear ?
You need to be comfortable and able to move easily and safely, so nothing too tight or too baggy. People often wear leggings, trackie bottoms or shorts with a t-shirt. Bring a jumper you can slip on if its cooler. You don’t need to wear shoes as we practice yoga in bare feet.
What do I bring?
We will mainly be using mats, blocks/bricks, yoga straps, and eye pillows. These will be available for you to use unless you’d prefer to bring your own.
It would be helpful if you could bring a blanket and a towel to class.
Can I eat before class?
Ideally try to avoid eating for 1-2 hours before class, as we will be bending forwards and backwards etc. and this may feel unpleasant with a full stomach.
